The Minnesota Department of Commerce has issued consent orders to two health insurance companies, Medica and HealthPartners, following examinations of their compliance with mental health parity laws. The examinations found areas where the insurer’s practices created barriers to accessing mental health and substance use disorder treatment. The consent orders include a fine and corrective actions to improve access and ensure compliance going forward.
